I remember there was a challenge on Facebook that sounded like „Top 10 books that have changed your life”. Well, I think this is one of the best things I took from Facebook.
To choose 10 books from all those that you’ve read so far! That seems impossible! It can take an eternity and I think this wouldn’t be enough. But I will surely try to choose 10. 🙂
Note: Some of the books on my list are written by Romanian authors, so if I don’t find the titles in English, I will write them in Romanian.
1. „Harry Potter”, J. K. Rowling. Because forever. Because it taught me more than any other book existing on this planet.
2. „Living to tell the Tale”, G. G. Marquez. Because it taught me how to fight.
3. „La Medeleni”, Ionel Teodoreanu. It showed me how beauty and tenderness looked like. Fight and ambition. It taught me that our lives exist as long as we want it to exist. If we choose to die, we do it before death comes.
4. „Alone in the World”, Hector Malot. I was a kid when I read it. And it changed me a lot. It is a book of a beautiful, pure and unique innocence.
5. „Pe firul de păianjen al memoriei”, Cella Serghi. It is kinda translated like: „On the memory’s spider spread”. It was near me during hard periods and whispered a lot of things. I’m still thinking and analizing them, as they are of a rare depth.
6. „Norwegian Wood”, Haruki Murakami. Because of reasons. Personality.
7. „1984”, George Orwell. Well. This book should be on most of the tops, because it represents a fear of the humanity. An obedience people don’t talk about. It is one of the bravest books I’ve ever read.
8. „Life on a Station Platform”, Octavian Paler. I used to be afraid of loneliness, but Paler taught me not to be afraid of anything.
9. „Lorelei”, Ionel Teodoreanu. Here I learnt how to love and appreciate.
10. „On the Road”, Jack Kerouac. Sincerely, I hated the book from the first 50 pages, but I read it, because I don’t like to start a book and leave it like this. I hated it a whole year till I discovered its true value. I will tell you someday about it.
I’m pretty sure that, in some month, my list will change, because there are so many books and I never stop reading.
Ţi-aş propune şi ţie, drag cititor, să încerci să întocmeşti o listă cu cele 10 cărţi care te-au marcat şi să ne spui şi de ce.
I suggest you to try and make your own list. It is very interesting for you and I will read it with pleasure.
I’ve chosen some of you to do it, if you like it:
I can’t wait to see if we have a book in common! Tell me if you decide to do it 🙂
I wish you a great evening and don’t forget to fall in love with the book you are reading!
I will do it as soon as I get home. Thank you

Thanks you Mia for sharing. Agree on Rowling, 1984 (such a relevant book even to this day though it was written in 1948) and on the road. Will read the rest soon. You have given me a list .. Nice. Have fun.
ApreciazăApreciat de 1 persoană
Yay, I’m glad you liked it. I’m waiting for your reviews upon the rest of the books 🙂

ApreciazăApreciat de 1 persoană
Wow! Thanks a million times! I’ll have to reconsider the books now; the uncountable ones I’ve read. I’ll come with this post soon 🙂 I’ve read some of the books from your list too and I love them all!
ApreciazăApreciat de 1 persoană
You are welcome! What books from my list have you read? 🙂
ApreciazăApreciat de 1 persoană
Hi Mia! Thanks for the nomination I appreciate that you thought about my blog! I have an award free blog but i can reblog your challenge if is ok for you 🙂
https://robertapimentel.com/award-free-blog/
ApreciazăApreciat de 1 persoană
Oh, ok, of course you don’t have to do it. Yet I don’t think it’s a real award 🙂 I just wanted all of you to think a little about the books, it’s not about nomination and things like this 🙂
But there isn’t a problem, you can just write it for yourself in a notebook 😀 It’s just interesting.

Rowling, Marquez, Orwell, Murakami. I’ll soon read Jack Kerouac!
ApreciazăApreciat de 1 persoană
Oh, very good ones, of course.
I’m going to post something about Kerouac’s „On the Road” this week. 🙂 An awesome book.
ApreciazăApreciat de 1 persoană

Nice, thank you very much 🙂

I would like to read some of the books you are recommending. I don’t think I have 10 books that have changed my life yet hehe. I read more fashion magazines but it’s very good to read books. The two books that have changed my life is Veronica decides to die by Paolo Coelho and the secret by Rhonda Byrne. 😊
Cheers!

It’s never too late to read books. Of course, magazines are also a type of writing, everyone has his/her own little pleasures. 🙂 And I’m pretty sure the magazines have also changed your life 🙂 So, keep reading what you like to read. But if you manage to read something from my list I would be glad to know your opinion upon it. 🙂
ApreciazăApreciat de 1 persoană
Also, if you like Coelho, I would recommed „The Winner stands alone”, great book!
ApreciazăApreciat de 1 persoană
Thanks Mia I will checkout 🙂 I love Coelho!
ApreciazăApreciat de 1 persoană
Thats a nice list! if I get home I will make one of my own 😉
ApreciazăApreciat de 1 persoană
Ok, I will wait for it!
Thank you!
ApreciazăApreciat de 1 persoană
1984 is at the top of my list.
ApreciazăApreciat de 1 persoană
Great book! The movie is also good.
ApreciazăApreciat de 1 persoană
Loved this, would love to make something like this myself someday, but I have a bit more reading to get through! Super slow reader but I will check a few of these out.
I can at least see Jonathan Franzen’s „Freedom” as the book that hit me at just the right age and helped me grow up the fastest. Definitely recommend, very human novel.
ApreciazăApreciat de 1 persoană
Oh, I’m also a slow reader. I can stop reading for months just because I don’t feel like reading and then read three books in a week 🙂
I have never heard of Franzen, I will check it, thank you!
ApreciazăApreciat de 1 persoană
If you hate his style let me know so I can apologise! Hahaha 😀
ApreciazăApreciat de 1 persoană
😀 I’m scared now

Found my way here through Roberta’s reblog of this article. I agree when you say it’s extremely difficult to choose 5 or 10 books that might have changed your life! And my favourites change over time too..they change all the time in fact!
Glad to meet you here and I’m looking forward to reading more of your posts. Cheers!
ApreciazăApreciat de 1 persoană
Thanks for stopping by!
Of course, I found it very difficult. You can try and do it, too!
Glad to meet you, too, and I’m glad you liked it!

I was introduced to this post through Roberta’s reblog of it:) It’s so nice to meet another reader! you people are so hard to find, I’m a reader too. I have only read the first book, but only the deathly hollows one. Nice list
ApreciazăApreciat de 1 persoană
Hey, thanks for visiting! 🙂 Yeah, I’m a „crazy” reader, haha :)) Go make your own list, it is very interesting! And you definitely should read the other part of HP, they are awesome.
ApreciazăApreciat de 1 persoană
I’m a crazy reader too:)) I’ll make a list eventually:) it’s nice to meet you Mia:)
ApreciazăApreciat de 1 persoană
Ok, waiting for your list then 🙂 Nice to meet you, too!
ApreciazăApreciat de 1 persoană
I look forward to future book recommendations and conversations with you:)
ApreciazăApreciat de 1 persoană
Well, I’ll post some this week for sure 🙂
ApreciazăApreciază
I have reade some of your top 10 books. For me it not the same to list „10 best books I’ve read and „10 books that changed my life”
Reading Peter Pan as a child has made the biggest impact for me.
ApreciazăApreciat de 1 persoană
Same with „Harry Potter” for me 🙂
ApreciazăApreciat de 1 persoană
I will definitely do this but need to give it some thought! Thank you ☺
ApreciazăApreciat de 1 persoană
Waiting then 🙂

Reblogged this on Still Another Writer's Blog and commented:
1. Godel, Escher, Bach: An Eternal Golden Braid (logic, computers, and how it all can become very tangled, leading ultimately to genius); (2) Metamagical Themas (same author; very fun variant on same ideas as #1); (3) Leaving Home (Jay Haley; a book about family therapy that focuses on adolescents); (4) Problem Solving Therapy (Jay Haley; a more general book about family therapy); (5) Now Discover Your Strengths (the idea that focusing on areas of strength is better than trying to learn everything); (6) Go Put Your Strengths to Work (#5 is not enough; you have to actually USE your strengths to get something done (and „outsource” anything that is not a strength, like „cleaning the toilet” (referenced in another post)); (7) Getting Things Done (David Allen, but I never can quite make his system work; it seems more like an ideal than something that can actually be attained); (8) Gladwell: Tipping Point; Outliers; Blink; etc. (9) Freakonomics series (A Rogue Economist Explores the Hidden Side of Everything); (10) too many others to tell, and I would rather leave it open; maybe „Google Scholar” is the best answer for #10

Thank you for your list! We read books about different thing so I have to (shamefully) that I haven’t read anything written by any if the authors that you liked. So, maybe I can check them out. Thanks!
ApreciazăApreciat de 1 persoană
They are all life changing in different ways. Start with „Now, Discover Your Strengths” and „Go Put Your Strengths to Work.” They will help you avoid certain kinds of time wasting.
ApreciazăApreciat de 1 persoană
Okay, thank you very much!
